NOT JUST ANOTHER BLOG ON ROIDS... (2~13~09)

Am I the only one that feels the steroids issue is a non issue? We want to rip on these guys like A-Rod, McGwire, Clemens, Tejada, Adam Piatt....what??? Adam Piatt? W-T-F!!!!

We are ripping these guys (minus Piatt, though I loved the guy when he was an A) for doing steroids because they were great ball players. What about the hundreds of ball players who have done steroids who royally sucked the big one? My first point...Steroids does not make a bad or even good player GREAT! It simply doesn't accomplish that. Yes, I know it makes you heal faster...hmmm healing fast??? Yah that sounds like a problem!?!?

The next issue people bring up is our poor little kiddies that might look up to these guys. Ummm...hey parents...try raising your children and instead of looking up to druggies they might want to look up to you. I do believe that people that are in the public eye should absolutely be aware of what they are doing because they can influence those with less confidence and willingness to do the right thing whether it makes them look cool or not. However, lets switch gears for a moment....
HOLLYWOOD...Britney Spears...Lindsey Lohan...Paris Hilton etc. etc. etc.

(I totally wrote this section before finding this picture!)

These different types of celebrities are forgiven in a heartbeat. Britney Spears is a complete crazy person who put her kids in danger on more than one occasion yet we allow her to come back as though nothing ever happened. We have Paris Hilton who has had how many DUIs? Or Lindsey Lohan the once straight, drugged out, boozer. And now we have our loved Olympian Michael Phelps. What? He smoked weed? Are you serious? That's no big deal; who cares, everyone is doing it!?!? ? Weed? It's not as bad as steroids?????? Come on people! Now let me take a few lines from one of my favorite flicks Ratatouille:

"After reading a lot of overheated puffery about your new cook(or roids), you know what I'm craving? A little PERSPECTIVE. That's it. I'd like some fresh, clear, well seasoned PERSPECTIVE. Can you suggest a good wine to go with that? .... Very well. Since you're all out of PERSPECTIVE and no one else seems to have it in this bloody town, I'll make you a deal. You provide the food; I'll provide the PERSPECTIVE, which would go nicely with a bottle of Cheval Blanc 1947 (or a good coliseum dog and a miller lite)"

Now for some perspective. So far we have covered the fact that steroids does NOT make a great ball player, and instead of allowing athletes and celebs to raise your children that job should be left to the parents.

Do you really think these steroid injectees or butt rub recipients are really that bad? Do you really think it totally takes away all of their accomplishments? Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, A-Rod shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame? Here I'll help you answer those questions...No, No, No. I know what you are thinking hey maybe they should have tried using that word...NO. Well for some of those guys steroids weren't illegal when they used and when it became illegal where was baseball? Where was the commissioner? Where were the owners? The managers? Oh that's right they were laughing on their way to the bank. Hey they weren't doing steroids right? The players are the ones that will look bad so why should they do anything?

To plug a great new show, The Brew and Bill Show (Monday Night 10:00 EST on BlogTalkRadio.com) there was a caller this past Monday who discussed how baseball will go into obscurity if this continues and it is a distant third behind basketball and football. Then he added how steroids don't do anything but help you heal and has bad side effects. So why in H-E- double hockey sticks are we making such a big deal out of this. He was arguing against steroids but absolutely argued why this shouldn't be a big deal.

If you listened to Joe Torre on Bob Costas' show on the MLB network you would have heard him talk about what part baseball took in this non-issue of steroids. He said it was brought to his attention and they all had suspicions but the problem was how to approach the players. Hey about this, "Are you doing steroids? If you are how about you stop or you will tarnish your career and be kicked out of baseball." If it is that big of a deal why wasn't it a big deal before Canseco wrote a book and congress got involved? These guys are being made fools of for nothing. So baseball can rebuild its reputation of being a classy game. When I watch a game as a fan I don't care about off the field drama or steroids. I think about these guys entertaining me and wanting my team to kick @$$.

Now we have all heard in 2006 Roberto Alomar along with his ex-girlfriend tested positive for HIV. Did you also forget that he spit on an umpire? And the one incident I always like to bring up is Michael Vick killing poor defenseless animals for sh*ts and giggles. Oh and then there is Darryl Strawberry and his guns found in his car. Now you tell me who is a better role model or which situations are easier to explain to your children.

We are blowing this issue way out of proportion. These guys are not criminals; they did not ruin the game of baseball. The worst thing they have done is lied and done something that long term could hurt their body. I don't feel hurt by anything they have done. I love baseball and I will always love baseball. Congress and Bud "I'm an A-hole" Selig must have something better to do with their time, right? These guys should have clean records and we should all move on from this foolishness that is the era of steroids.
